Grammarly Edu
Grammarly Edu
Last year, we announced access to Grammarly Edu for faculty and staff through a one-year institutional license at no cost to the university, available through July 2026. At that time, student access was deferred so we could evaluate the platform, gather feedback, and prepare for a potential broader rollout.
After careful consultation with Academic Leadership, we have decided not to renew the Grammarly contract. The sustained low usage of this tool does not justify the cost of renewal, and this decision supports our commitment to responsible fiscal stewardship.
Below is information regarding what will happen to your Grammarly account after the Edu license expires. This information only applies to Grammarly accounts with an @mail.fresnostate.edu email address that were a part of the Edu License.
What will happen to my Grammarly account?
Effective August 10th, 2026, Grammarly will discontinue Fresno State accounts associated with the university license. You will no longer have access to the paid EDU features, and your Grammarly account will revert to an individual account. Any documents and account data saved under your account will remain accessible to you.
I have only used Grammarly Edu
If you have only used the Grammarly Edu account provided at no cost to you and did not have a paid subscription, your account will revert to the free version of Grammarly. To continue using the free version of your account, reset your password: https://www.grammarly.com/resetpassword.
I had a Paid Subscription
If you previously paid for a Grammarly subscription, your account was either refunded or frozen, depending on your request, and will revert to its previous setup.
- I requested a refund: If you had a paid subscription and requested a refund when you joined the Edu License, your paid subscription was canceled, and your account was reverted to the free version. To continue using the free version of your account, reset your password: https://www.grammarly.com/resetpassword.
- I did not request a refund: If you had a paid subscription and did not request a refund when you joined the Edu License, your subscription was frozen and will revert to the paid version. Grammarly will resume direct billing for your paid subscription, in accordance with your previous account agreement, until you cancel.
- I am unsure about my account status: If you’re not sure about the status of your paid subscription, please contact https://support.grammarly.com/hc/en-us/requests/new.
More Information about Resetting Your Password
Because SSO has been the sign-in method, you may not have a Grammarly password set. If you need to access your account outside of the institutional SSO flow, you should reset your password: https://www.grammarly.com/resetpassword.
- I had my own Grammarly account before I joined the Edu License: If you already had a Grammarly account with a password before joining the Edu License, you don’t need to do anything. When the license expires, your account will simply revert to its previous status, and you can keep signing in with the email and password you had before. If you have forgotten your password, you can use the standard "Forgot password" flow to reset it.
- I only had Grammarly Edu: If you originally joined only via SSO (and never set a password), you just need to reset your password to continue accessing your free Grammarly account. Reset your password: https://www.grammarly.com/resetpassword.
